Steamship service between Providence R.I. and Sakonnet Point in Little Compton R.I. began about 1886 and lasted until about 1919. For more information about the Sakonnet Steamship line and Sakonnet Point the book "Traveling Around Aquidnect Island 1890-1930 (How We Got Around)" by James E. Garman, published by Hamilton Printing, Portsmouth R.I. in 1996 contains a chapter "The Sakonnet Steamship Line" on page 59.
