Black and white photograph of Eugene driving a horse drawn buggy. Eugene Kossuth Shurtleff was born in Weyauwega, WI on May 3, 1856 and was a descendent of the 17th century Little Compton Shurtleff's. He and his mother returned to Little Compton when he was a young boy. A story says that she re-married three times on the trip back east. Eugene married Hattie Elma Cook on December 31, 1885. They had nine children and lived in Adamsville. Eugene died in Little Compton on December 30, 1942. This is a digital image. The original was retained by the family. Eugene Shurtleff is described in his granddaugher Helen Shurtleff Collin's oral history in "Remembering Adamsville." |
