One of two items believed to have belonged to painter Worthington Whittredge - his descendant is less confident about this item. The other is 2022.13.2. It appears one small wooden stretcher key is missing from the kit. If this belonged to Whittredge it would need to be dated after his move to Cincinatti, Ohio, to become an artist in 1836. The reverse, in one corner & along one of the longer sides, is a 1.5x3 inch white sticker that reads "CAT.NO.38". To the right is another label, also 1.5x3 inch originally, with the top left 1/4 of it torn away. The top half is blue and the bottom half is white. Visible is "& SON, INC./...OF WORKS OF ART/424 West 52nd St, New York, N.Y./Established 1867". Research indicates that the original, full sticker read "W.S. BUDWORTH & SON, INC./PACKING AND SHIPPING OF WORKS OF ART/424 West 52nd St., New York, N.Y./Established 1867". William S. Budworth was also a landscape artist, active in Mount Vernon, New York (near Yonkers). In the white portion, written in blue pen, is the numeral 2. To the right of that, in the center of the bar, there is a 5/8x2.5 section where the wood is paler and it has a small piece of paper stuck there. It appears there was another label of some kind affixed there. On the opposite corner, along the shorter side of the stretcher, "CONN" is written in white chalk. Supporting W.S.
