Terra cotta flowerpot. Lip on top rim and band around top quarter of body. Deep sides and slightly tapers from top to bottom. Hole in bottom. Illegible stamp on side: "CHACE (?)/SOMERSET MA." Written on bottom: "CB/LC ORIGIN/BROWNELL" Because the cookhouse was warm from the caldron fire, farmers sometimes started plants in flowerpots in the Spring, which would be moved outdoors when the weather became warmer. |
